Our Mission

To support sustainable economic growth, attract and retain businesses, create quality jobs, and enhance
the overall quality of life for South Miami-Dade.

Our Story

Empowering Growth. Enriching Lives.

Founded in 1993, in the wake of Hurricane Andrew’s devastation, the EDC of South Miami-Dade emerged as a symbol of hope and resilience. Fueled by the collaborative spirit of community leaders and local businesses, our objective took form: to restore our region’s economy and amplify our collective voice.

Today, we stand at the forefront of progress, leveraging advocacy and strategic projects designed to cultivate a resilient, self-sustainable economy. Our targeted efforts propel regional economic development, facilitate business expansion, and foster a thriving, entrepreneurial environment in the five key South Miami-Dade areas we represent, including Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay, Homestead, Cutler Bay, Florida City, as well as nearby unincorporated areas.

As the local economic development organization, we endeavor to improve the quality of life and opportunities for our residents, ensuring that South Miami-Dade continues to flourish as the vibrant, inclusive community it has become. One key way we do that is by advancing educational initiatives that nurture our highly skilled workforce 一 empowering individuals and businesses alike.

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

“South Dade has a special place in my heart and I’m proud to call it home. I’m also proud of the great relationship I’ve had with the Economic Development Council of South Dade. The EDC has been at the forefront of promoting South Dade as a region, attracting new businesses to the area, and supporting an entrepreneurial spirit. I encourage more businesses and residents to take advantage of their great services.”

Mayor Cava, Miami-Dade County

“The Village of Palmetto Bay is proud of its long-standing relationship with the EDC of South Miami-Dade County. The EDC has been a tireless advocate and champion for regional development in South Dade while also striving to protect the unique qualities of our communities that make this a wonderful place to live, work, play and learn. The EDC is an integral part of the South Dade Coalition of Municipalities and has helped amplify our voices on important issues and I thank them for their continued support.”

Mayor Karyn Cunningham, Palmetto Bay

“The EDC has been a blessing for South Dade. Our cities typically don’t have economic development departments. We do a lot of work internal to our communities, but we all realize that an economically viable South Dade is good for all our cities externally. The EDC plays the role of attracting business and coordinating many of the efforts the cities just couldn’t do on their own. We are all better off for it.”

Mayor Joe Corradino, Village of Pinecrest

“The EDC has been very beneficial as a contact with community development in terms of finding additional methods for bringing new business to our area.”

Mayor Tim Meerbott, Cutler Bay
