Through industry diversification, we help fortify the local economy, protecting it and our workforce from economic downturns. Our leaders have developed targeted programs to draw in, support, and help expand the following industries:

Agricultural

We have one of the most diverse agricultural industries in Miami-Dade. Our gorgeous, tropical climate means growing season is all year. This allows us to grow a very wide range of crops like beans, tomatoes, zucchini, and sugar cane.

Our land is less susceptible to frost, has rich soil, open space for water recharge, and beautiful wildlife habitats. Small and large farms are calling Miami-Dade home, as it’s not only perfect for traditional agriculture, but also great for nurseries.

Aviation, Hospitality, & Tourism

Located near one of the largest travel hubs across the globe, Miami International Airport, and home to five-star accommodations including the Biltmore Hotel, our South Miami-Dade communities are home to two national parks, Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park. We’re situated along the route of one of America’s most classic road trips, from Miami to the Florida Keys.

As such, South Miami-Dade is an ideal place for tourists seeking outdoor adventure at an area park or a stop between destinations as they leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city. The relaxed atmosphere and access to world-class golf courses and other leisure activities makes our local communities the ultimate destination for events such as corporate retreats, international business conferences, seminars and workshops, destination weddings, fundraisers, and other occasions.

Construction

Situated in western Miami-Dade, the Lake Belt region has Florida’s highest-quality limestone. Our limestone is able to produce aggregates that meet state DOT and federal standards for cement, concrete, and asphalt. The limestone industry in Miami-Dade is responsible for providing over 14,000 jobs, and millions of dollars in revenue.

Public transportation is a rapidly growing sector in Miami-Dade. With the new South-Dade Transitway Corridor, a 20-mile rapid bus transit line will be built through quickly growing communities. This project is going to take about two years to complete. It will be only one of two transitway systems in the country that stop traffic with moving barrier arms when busses come near an intersection. Our county is easily navigated with places like grocery stores, gyms, and restaurants readily available.

Retail

There’s no place to shop like South Miami-Dade, because you can spend time in the sun and get some retail therapy. With shops, malls, and boutiques to suit every style and budget, we are a shopper’s bliss. Our retail options are known to draw customers from around the world.

Life Sciences & Healthcare

The Health District in Miami-Dade is full of rich history and is the center of Miami’s research and rapidly growing biotechnology industries. It’s neighborhood is made of several hospitals, such as the Jackson Memorial hospital, research institutes, clinics, and biotech facilities. The Health District is just minutes away from downtown Miami with our rapid transit on the Miami Metrorail.

Miami-Dade is focused on the health and wellbeing of all its residents. Our community based program, Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW), was created to make healthy living easier and more accessible. Through CPPW, hundreds of childcare centers have been trained in programs to keep kids moving and eating a healthy diet. CPPW has also installed over 200 bicycle racks across Miami-Dade.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing has deep roots in the area. Since WWII, we have been steadily growing manufacturing employment. We’re best known for light manufacturing household goods, like food and electronics. We have a growing sector of hand-crafted manufacturers, where small establishments with just a few workers thrive. Our biotechnology manufacturing sector is growing rapidly too, due our diverse population, advances in technology, and excellent location. 305
