About Us

The Economic Development Council of South Miami-Dade was created to assist the southern reaches of the county after the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The EDC advocates and supports the retention and expansion of businesses, creation of new job opportunities, workforce training, and smart, sustainable infrastructure projects. We continually keep our local businesses’ and residents’ live, work, play, and pray lifestyle as top-of-mind. The EDC is the single voice representing our growing municipalities, our agricultural industry, tourism, and all 600,000 residents and 20,000 businesses.

STRATEGIC ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR SOUTH DADE

In September 2020, the STRATEGIC ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR SOUTH MIAMI-DADE was completed. The EDC was pleased to collaborate and partner with Miami-Dade County RER, the South Florida Regional Planning Council, and numerous other public and private partners in its creation and development. The effort was funded through a U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant, and matching funds from Miami-Dade County.

This Plan represents strategies that can adjust to the challenges faced in the community and will grow in time to meet future needs. The EDC’s sustained commitment to the implementation of this Plan, will lay the groundwork for a sound economic future for South Miami-Dade.
